S.S.S. Davy Jones, 1939 National Flagship, Greensboro, NC. Following being named National Flagship in 1939, Life magazine sent a photographer and reporter to the ship's base at High Rock Lake. They spent 5 days there, and the story was scheduled for the September 1 cover. It unfortunately was never published due to Germany's invasion of Poland. The Sea Scout story was never used because war news took over so much of the magazine's space thereafter. |

Greensboro Area Council (NC) Sea Scouts helped Jaycees stage the fourth annual “Bundle Day” in 1941. The joint effort collected five carloads of toys, 15,000 garments, and a quantity of food, rugs, and furniture—all of which was turned over to the Salvation Army for distribution. |
