USPS Finley Sea Scout Service Award

USPS Finley Sea Scout Service AwardCommunity Service Award knot
The USPS “Finley Sea Scout Service Award” recognizes those members and honorees of the United States Power Squadrons who are also youth or adult Sea Scout leaders, and who have provided outstanding civic, educational, and fraternal leadership to both the Sea Scouts and the United States Power Squadrons, through civic involvement, educational achievement, and active participation in both programs.

Historic Trail Award

Historic Trail Award
Through the nation there are numerous historic sites and trails. The Historic Trail Award was established to implement the cooperation between historic societies and Sea Scout Ships and Venturing units. This cooperation makes may exciting trips and treks possible for you.

Information on how to proceed and qualify for the award is found in BSA's Tours and Expeditions. The Historic Trail Award Application, which must be filled out and sent to the local council service center, is also found in this publication.

50-Miler Award

50-Miler Award
The 50-Miler Award is presented to each individual of a Sea Scout Ship for satisfactory participation on a cruise or wilderness trek that meets the award requirements.

Individuals can qualify only as a member of their Ship. Those participating as members of a provisional Ship are not eligible. Information including the rules, award requirements, and the application can be found in the BSA's Tours and Expeditions

William T. Hornaday Awards

Hornaday Awards
The William T. Hornaday Award is for distinguished service to conservation. If you are interested in the conservation of the country's natural resources, you may wish to earn this award, named after the staunch conservationist and first director of the New York State Zoological Society, William T. Hornaday. Suggestions that will help you qualify for it are found on the application which is available at your council service center.

Conservation Good Turn

Conservation Good Turn
The World Conservation Award provides another opportunity for individual Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, and Venturers to "think globally" and "act locally" to preserve and improve our environment.

This program is designed to make Scouts and Venturers aware that all nations are closely related through natural resources and that we are interdependent with our world environment.

Standard Sea Scout Ship Award

Standard Sea Scout Ship Unit
The Standard Sea Scout Ship Award is designed to recognize the achievement of a national standard by Sea Scout Ships. See Standard Sea Scout Ship Scoresheet, No. 28-305C, found in the Appendix of the Sea Scout Manual.

Interpreter Strip

Interpreter Strip
Scouts and Adults may wear this strip if they show their knowledge of a foreign language or the sign language for the deaf by:

  1. Carrying on a 5-minute conversation in this language.
  2. Translating a 2-minute speech or address.
  3. Writing a letter in the language (Does not apply for sign language)
  4. Translating 200 words or more from the written word.
