Sea Scouting Insignia

The Boy Scouts of America Supply Division makes available a wide range of Sea Scouting-related insignia and literature. (Prices have been confirmed as of January 2001, but are subject to change. (Some prices have been updated in April 2002, but not all have been updated.) Please report any necessary corrections by e-mail to the editor.) Additionally, some Sea Scouting-related literature is available from the National Venturing Division as "bin distribution" (free) items.

Ship Flag Lettering Instructions

To ensure flag uniformity, it is a policy of the Boy Scouts of America that only unit flags complete with lettering be sold. Also, regulations for flag lettering prohibit variations in the wording or location of the lettering on the unit flag. All unit flags must be lettered with the type of unit, unit number, town or city, and state.

Top Half of Ship Flag:
Line 1: Type of unit (Ship) and unit number.
Line 2: Chartered institution's name (optional). Ships may add unit name if they have one.

Lower Half of Ship Flag:
Line 3: Town or city (geographical name) and name of state (usually abbreviated).
Line 4: Council name (optional).

No other lettering is permitted.

Important: Enter the catalog numbers and prices for your lettering on the order form. Include all required information on a separate sheet of paper along with the order form. Order by mail from

How to order

All of the above items (except the Quartermaster medal and the Seabadge) can be ordered through your local council service center.

Orders may also be placed on Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express by calling the BSA Supply Division toll-free number, 800-323-0732, in the continental U.S.; or by sending a fax to 704-588-5822.

Orders received after December 31, 2001, where a price change has occurred, will be returned to the customer. Prices slightly higher outside the continental United States.

If not charged, all orders must be accompanied by a check or money order. All checks must be drawn on American banks and made payable to Boy Scouts of America.

Note: A fee of $20.00 will be assessed on all returned checks.

Orders over $400.00 must be accompanied by a certified check or money order. Personal or unit checks over the amount of $400.00 cannot be accepted.

Custom lettered flags and engraved items require additional handling time and will be shipped separately.

Sales Tax Information
The BSA is required by law to collect all state and local taxes where applicable. Note: If your unit is tax exempt, please send an exemption certificate with your order.
