The Sea Scouts of Ship 90, New Milford,
sailed from Annapolis, Md. to New York City and back again to attend
the 90th Anniversary of Sea Scouting.
On July 18,
sea scouts Matt Weber, Jacob Brizzolara, Steve Spencer, skipper
Barry Hall and captain Charles Jaget boarded the 30 foot slooped
rigged sailboat the 'Gibson Girl' owned by captain Jaget, Gibson,
and departed Annapolis Md. in poor winds, but incurring some bad
weather along the way, arriving in Great Kills Harbor, Staten
Inland, New York City on July 22.
The rest of the crew joined us on July 25 to prepare for the
celebration set for July 27.
The big day began with a parade from 46th street dock down the
Hudson River to the Statue of Liberty and back to 46th street.
Forty-one sea scout ships took part, coming from Alabama,
Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey,
New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas,
Virginia, Washington D.C. and West Virginia.
Ceremonies were held on board the carrier 'Intrepid' hanger deck,
complete with a sea scout band, address by the National Boatswain
Cyrus Lawyer, National Venturing and Sea Scout Director Charles
Holmes and our Regional Commodore Bruce Chr. Johnson.
The 'Gibson Girl' returned to Annapolis with the new crew they
met in New York City.
