15 1997 Cascade Pacific Council Quartermaster Ball, Portland Yacht Club.

Several Quartermaster awards will be presented this year, along with the
Fleet Flagship award, all aboard a Landship. There will also be a dance
following the Landship ceremony. Beverages are included. Dress is to be
dress blue Sea Scout uniform for Scouts and Scouters. Non-Scouts/Scouters
should wear formal or semi-formal attire. The Grand March begins promptly
at 2000.

Seabadge training is a national Sea Scouting training
curriculum administered on a regional basis. Its
purpose is to improve the leadership, management, and
training skills of selected Sea Scout officers; to
train trainers who, upon graduation, will pass on the
knowledge and insight gained during the experience to
those in his or her area of Sea Scouting responsibili-
ties; to improve the unit management skills of Sea
Scout officers and committee members by stimulating
trained Seabadge personnel to conduct local council Sea
Scout training courses; to improve the understanding
of the Sea Scout program and its objectives and to
use this improved understanding to increase the quality
of local Sea Scout Ships and to expand the outreach
of the program; and to provide for an interchange of
program and administrative ideas between Sea Scout
personnel from a variety of background and locations.

originally an event for Sea Scouts but now everybody
goes. Includes traditional sailing and rowing events,
as well as kayaking, canoeing, swimming, pillow-fights,
and volleyball. Purported to be the largest gathering
of its kind in the southern hemispher. More information

The Bridge of Honor includes a terrific dinner, awards
ceremony aboard a landship for Sea Scouts (including
the coveted Sea Scout of the Year Award) and Sea
Scouting adult officers, a formal dance with a Queen
of the Ball competition, a Sunday morning Skippers'
meeting, and a great deal of socializing and idea
swapping. This is one of the largest Sea Scouting
events in the country and is extremely well run. Space
is limited, so reserving your place early is
recommended.

The seminar will bring together Sea scout and Guide leaders
from many different countries to share ideas, experiences and
plan future co-operation. The proposed program includes: an
overview of Sea Scouting and Guiding in Europe and review of
previous Sea Scout and Guide seminars; new EU safety regula-
tions for water activities; Europe For You! and Sea Scouting's

(This is the new home of the Nantucket Lightship.) Sail in if you can,
though event is accessible by land. Competition among composite crews
as usual. There will also be one or two intership competitions.
There will be an opportunity for individuals to be designated
Squadron Navigator by taking a standard USPS test and acquiring
some token. Top scorer will get a cup. Ships attend to their own
berthing and messing. The marina has its own restaurant which is not
open for breakfast. Drive-in Ships will be able to go sailing as
guests of sail-in Ships on Sunday wind and weather permitting.

30-9/1 William Minto Rendezvous, Texas Coast Area. Sponsor:
Sam Houston Area Council. Location: Girl Scout Camp Casa Mare,
Seabrook, Texas. The Rendezvous traditionally serves the
Texas Gulf Coast Sea Scouting units, but invites all interested
Ships to participate.
The Rendezvous follows a traditional form with events derived from
skills presented in the Sea Scout Manual and on practical
sailing skills. Scores by competing crews are kept to determine and
recognize winners. Events include knots, marlinespike, first aid,
boatswains chair, stage rigging, mariners quiz, ring buoy,
scuttlebutt, drill, navigation problems,uniform inspection and the
like. Fun events include a competitive swim meet, life boat
scramble, "Gumby Suit" relay and no-paddle canoe races.

Annual Snug Harbor Rendezvous. Location: Camp Letts, Annapolis, Maryland Description:
Join us for a fun and relaxing weekend at Camp Lett's in Annapolis, MD. There are opportunities for water activities - sailboats, powerboats, canoes and pulling boat. Facilities: 6 rustic cabins have been reserved, each will hold 12 people. Males and females will be housed separately. The cabins are bunk style, with mattresses. You will need to bring your on sleeping gear - bag, pillow, covers, etc. Some tenting will be allowed if necessary. This will be on a first reserve - first served basis. Each unit is responsible for their own meals. Fisher Hall is available with a refrigerator and stove for sharing with other units. Work uniforms and civilian attire is appropriate. The Chespeake Squadron and the National Capital Wardroom will each have a short awards ceremony - each coordinating their own. If you are not one of the two Councils and would like to be a part of an awards ceremony, please contact Ed Wright. There will be a dance on Saturday night so bring your !

The programme for the weekend is water based and will include the East Coast Sea Scout Regions canoe sprints and the long distance East Coast Skiff race. The skiff race is normally run in Dublin Port, but this year it will be over a course of 10kms on the Irish Sea. The skiff is unique to the East Coast of Ireland, especially around Dublin. They were formally used in the days of sail and crews from Dublin port would race out to meet ships coming to Dublin to load and off load. The crew that won the race had the right to look after this ship for the duration of its stay in Dublin port. This was a means of employment for the crews. Cost: IR£15 per head for the weekend.
